The icon was hagiographically created in the 16th century, when Ivan IV the Terrible was in power, and it constitutes a typical hagiography sample of Christ of the Russian School inspired by the first icon of Christ Pantocrator, in the first half of the 6th century, the encaustic icon that is in the Monastery of St. Catherine of Sinai.
